As it happens, I live at a northern terminus of the Underground Railroad (Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, PA) and the place where Lucretia Mott died in 1880. And although our house was built in 1890, and so thereby post-Civil War, there are houses in our neighborhood that go back into the 1850s and before (1682). Lawn Jockeys were symbols for communications between both 'passengers' and 'conductors' within the organization - or so local legend has it.

I state this as-such as the tradition of the guide function is strong around here, and some of the older devices are prized by their owners and *NEVER* put on open display for fear of theft. The Historical Commission once put on a display at the Wall House some years back as well. But as to direct historical connections - there are few and those are not certain.

is at such an elevation that my ham shack in it works all over Europe
armchair copy running 100 watts. When I talk simplex 2 meters to a
buddy in town on a handheld people break in from hundreds of miles away.
