Anyone making wooden or printed display bases for tubes?

I recall years back someone was selling them, but I can't seem to locate any now.

There is a guy at Kutztown, not all the time, that makes such bases to-order. He set up a small drill-press, once, and had a bunch of steel pin templates. Pick the wood, drill the holes, then finish the wood. I am not sure how he did the labels - looked a bit like chart-pak letters between coats of finish.

3D print? Seems like a possible use for a printer doing nothing...

Yes, that's sort of what I had in mind. Not that I have an idle 3D printer handy.

I was hoping to find a website where I could simply order a bunch of ready made single bases to fit various tube footprints.

How many are you looking for? I have a 3D printer sitting idle...could
be talked into making a small run or two. More than that and I'd have to
charge for time and materials. Other than postage of course.

I have some tubes of my own to make stands for now that I think of it....

John, I kind of like this guy's simplistic approach:

I don't know how many, I have a wall display I'd like to populate with tubes:

I suppose to fill it the eventual number might be 40 or 50? Not exactly a trivial quantity. I know little about 3D printing, but I imagine you could print several at a time?

I wonder if a design could be concocted that would accommodate various tube footprints?

What I see is a simple pedestal that is 3D printed then drilled for the
pin pattern. You would be better off turning them with a wood lathe and
you could make some very nice bases and a classic look. Perhaps your
local high school is looking for ideas for the students to practice
(assuming they do wood working)...

The 3D printed version uses a fair bit of plastic and I suspect would
take an hour or so each to print.

High schools no longer have shop classes :-( But hey, if you want to study Gender Studies or Social Media, you are all in.

Sounds like a good excuse for me to find a hobby lathe. I've been wanting one for another small project anyways.

A simple block of wood, sandpaper, chisel, drill. And it lights up.

Check at hobby/craft stores like Michaels or Hobby Lobby. They sell
various wood pieces that might be usable if you drill the appropriate
holes or mount a socket in them. The main issue as I see it is if they
are thick enough.
