Creating your own OTR CDs

Thought I'd share a simple way to create your own OTR CDs
library in MP3 or even in WAV (standard CD format).

I listen to Dismuke (365 live). There is also a list of Oldies
channels to listen to:
http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?quality=0&searchfields=TAC&genre=search&searchdesc=big+band+&x=7&y=9

I am on cable so dunno how well it will work using a modem...

Here's how to do it:
Simply select the channel you want to listen to for free (all those NOT
shown
as VIP). Every 5 or 6 listening sessions, you must delete the cookies as
Free
lsitening on 365 is limited to that, 5 or 6 sessions (they can last as long
as you
wish though...).

Next get Audio MP3 Sound Recorder. It's only $14.95. Simple and reliable
tool
to record live from a sound card _without_ fancy cables. Directly from the
sound card.
If you're too cheap, use google and search "crack audio..." But well worth
the 14.95.

Second tool needed is MP3 Extractor (found on www.nonags.com for free).
I use it to splice, cut, join my MP3. Simple, fast and free.

Third tool, CDex for ripping CDs and converting MP3-WAV-MP3. Easy, simple,
free and fast.

I just made a 12 hours CD of MP3 (mono, 96Kbs) of greatOTR, nostalgia music.
Old jazz, Hollywood canteen, crooners you name it. A treat !

I'm building a small library for a friend on standard CDs. 70 minutes per
CDs...
Great stuff for ambiance while toying with those old radios. I listen to
dismuke
thru my AM Txmtr in the shop for free. You can't ask for anything more...

The link I supply in this thread has great Free channels. Have a peek and
enjoy.

Syl,

Here's some more info. In addition to live 365, I'll repeat a plug that
I posted a while ago in another thread for some great mp3 binaries
newsgroups.

alt.binaries.sounds.1940s.mp3
alt.binaries.sounds.1950s.mp3
alt.binaries.sounds.78rpm-era
alt.binaries.sounds.radio.oldtime

Usually complete CDs and muli-CD anthologies are posted. Quality is
excellent. Bit rates are high. These are multi-part binaries that must
be combined in your newsreader. Many are straight mp3 files and many are
the dreaded yENC format. If your newsreader doesn't do yENC, there is a
separate decoder program downloadable for free at
http://www.yenc32.com/download.php Well worth the extra steps for all
this great high quality mp3 material for your library.

My Comcast cable includes GigaNews. The basic no-extra-cost service has
a 1 GB per month download limit. I usually don't get near the limit
except for a few months when I have been obsessed with downloading all
this stuff.

My PC has a 100 GB Western Digital drive I got a while back on sale for
$69 at Circuit City. I keep all the OTR stuff there. I have burned both
mp3 CDs and regular CDs occasionally, but I tend to lose track of them.
I'll probably go back to burning CDs when my 100 GB drive fills (that's
8.3 years at 1 GB per month :-)

Thanks for the reminder but that doesn't work for me unfortunately.

My ISP is real crappy when it somes to binaries.

I am not about to pay another 6-7$US a month simply to get
access to binaries. Heck, my hosting service cost me that much...

Are Canadabux tighter thatn SSI? It seems to me you are paying less
for all that than I pay without a website? 20 for DSL and 20 to
piggyback the ISP on it because FMTC the phone co. only covers a small
area although dialup covers most of Western Idaho (and Qwest owns the
local system) so we must pay extra for our service over Qwest DSL.

To paraphrase the Who, give them more "Pictures of Lizzie". "Thin
Lizzy" if you got 'em (well, that would be a "Cheap Trick")!

Bill,

I killfiled the moron...Don't even want to know if he's dead or alive.

You complained about others quoting spams in their
entirety and now you do the same with the village idiot.

So far everyone behaved and refrain of replying to him...

As long as he speaks to himself we're doing OK.

No offense intended.

None taken, Sylvain. Why do you complain about that if you are just as
cheap as you believe I am? Nor can you complain about our voting
habits when you can't speak any more authoritatively than I can (plus
you're Canadian and I don't gripe about YOUR government)? Come to
Michigan and get your citizenship! Otherwise please mention your
latest Triomphes du Electroniques, of which I will continue to marvel
over.

Have you considered a snail mail OTR CD trading/distribution group? All you are
asked is to make & mail a copy or two of what you elect to receive. I now have
280+ gigs full of OTR from just one group I've been in for a couple of years.

I didn't know such a thing existed, although it's not really a surprise.
I find this a bit too cumbersome and I wouldn't know what to do
with so many MP3s...;o)

Thanks,
Syl
