First: The conditions:

Must pick up in Melrose Park, PA. I WILL NOT SHIP.

Must pick on-or-before this coming Saturday.

I am not available this coming Wednesday.

Must take all-or-nothing. No cherry-picking (though there are no pits).

I do not want to see them on eBay the moment after pick-up. I am not stating that this cannot happen, but I would prefer they go to a user rather than an exploiter.

One working Fisher tube tuner - apparently with the SS MPX chip on board as I remember, it is an FM200B and with the wood case.

One working (black) Nikko integrated amplifier. Could be an NA 690 as it has meters. Good condition.

One working Sony dual-cassette deck. Black

I am culling the herd, and I have not-much-use for Pacific-Rim equipment, nor will I be ever likely to use the Fisher tuner. So, I am passing them on for exactly what I paid for them.

First person-by-date-stamp-on-email gets it. Remove spaces and add appropriate symbols.

It is very kind of you to offer items to the group.

However, I would ask why you turn it into an "e-mail race", the one with
the fastest ISP -- or heaven forbid -- someone had another obligation
before they read their email.

I would respectfully suggest that you take names for a 24 hour period
and then draw the winning name out of a hat. It seems like that would be
much more fair and give everyone an equal chance.

Just my 2 cents...

Even giving something away will result in someone complaining about how you do it. No way to break even... much less win.

Not to worry. A certain amount of sour grapes may be involved. I am trying to make this easy for me, not necessarily for anyone else, nor is the concept of 'fairness' involved.

I believe that JD is registering humor, not criticism.

When someone is offering something for free, who are we to judge if his method is "fair", or should be "fair"?

Would it be more "fair" if Peter had never offered the equipment at all?

I am ~600 miles away. Surely it is even less "fair" for me?

Peter, thank you for your generosity once again.

Look, Jackass (with apologies to the hooved variety): I am *GIVING* away equipment that eBay tells me is worth, in the aggregate, about $400+/-. I do not want to make it into work, or a complex process, or into a debate on means and methods. I reserve the right to be arbitrary, I reserve the right to do it any way I damned well please. And, if for some reason that drives the snot from your sinuses into your brain, so be it.

In my original post, I acknowledged it was nice of you to give the stuff
away. However I believe I made a legitimate (and polite) observation
about *how* you were giving it away. Yes, it might have taken you 2 or 3
more minutes to put the names in a hat -- but people would have admired
you for giving everyone an *equal* chance rather than your e-mail horse
race. But certainly your choice, just my observation of something you
(or others) might consider for future giveaways.

Next, I am hundreds of miles away and never considered "applying".

Finally, no need for name calling or rudeness on your part -- although
IMHO it clearly speaks about your character.

OK - give something away of value - and let's see how you do it. As to name-calling, nothing less than you deserve, and much milder than is my wont when confronted with a combination of mil.spec. self-righteous blather and industrial-grade gormlessness.

My character is my own, and I own it with all the consequences subsequent thereby.

Amen, Peter. When I give something away, it is FOB my basement door.
People who want it can either drive the 25 mile Tellico Mountain Road
to get it or they can do without.

If I say no phone calls, that's exactly what I mean. If I say no
delivery, that also is what I mean. Finally, when I say to bring your
own loading help, that is exactly what I mean. If you don't, then Yes
I WILL stand there and watch you try to load the goodie.

In short, it's my way or the highway.

I've gotten so much of this crap when I offer things for free that I'm
getting more and more inclined to just toss the goodie into the scrap
metal trailer and get 25 cents a pound for mixed shred.

You guys have run out of exterior things to gripe about? Even Cosmo is being nicer.

No, I've got all I want. Did I see Charlotte in the queue? That should be or was fun. Get the Nor'easter outta there and find a convertible.

Tells me that if someone is giving away *very* desirable equipment, it doesn't mean that they need to be punching bag. I think the offer as is tells us all we need to know. I've given away similar goods to friends and family, but never to a stranger who may simply flip it to buy ciggies and lite beer. Tells me Peter is a better man than I.

So I guess the odds of you putting that stuff on ebay for me, handling the shipping, and forwarding the proceeds are pretty much out the window...
