Hello all,

I had been looking for a good condition battery set for use as a bedside dx receiver. I found just what I was looking for on eBay for a good price and in very good condition. A 1952 Canadian General Electric Model C850. Someone along the line in shipping broke the cabinet, so I am looking for another set in good cosmetic shape. Need not work and chassis condition is not that important, but a good condition cardboard back would be a plus.

Thanks,
Randy AB9GO.

So silly question. Why do you want to use an AM only battery set for bedside DXing? I'm sure you have a good reason, but?

Why not get a newer AC general coverage unit that you can add a long wire antenna to?

Hello, and this is an old radio (read: well outdated technology)
newsgroup. I think the OP like many others (including myself) on this
ng enjoy the satisfaction of having an old set in good operating
condition. It's not meant to be practical or necessarily economical.
Or put another way, why spend $5000+ on a Rolex mechanical wristwatch?
It just gives you the time and is costly to properly have
cleaned/maintained. If you can understand that, you understand the
folks on this ng. Sincerely,

Oh trust me, I get it. I have many old radios. But the OP seems to want to use an unusual set for his purpose, it doesn't seem particularly well suited to the task. Let's let him answer the question -- which I directed at him specifically. Thanks.
