This looks at first glance like a clone of the US RCA 54B series of portables, until you examine it closely. The chassis is oriented differently, rotated 90 degrees. And what appears initially to be an eye tube (not likely in a battery portable) is likely actually the volume control. I also only see 3 tubes as opposed to 4. But the faux croc skins look almost identical, as does the metal case.

Stromberg Carlson was apparently a major presence down under, although the radios were dramatically different from those marketed here in the states.

That is an expensive radio for this-side-of-the-pond-and-across-the-country. I also have to admit that I have irrational leanings towards radios that actually look good (or can look good), as well as function properly. I once had a number of Emerson 'jewel-box' radios that were similar as well as a Bulova. They did not pass the 2-year rule and so went the way of all things that don't. It also looks like it needs a good deal of restoration.

Yes, I like SC radios - those few I have and had all worked quite well and had pleasant, but understated good looks.
