Brian KN4R a really good friend of more than 40 years needed to
sell something to raise some money to buy something else.
I ask what he had to sell and he sent a photo of a nice little
National SW-3 amateur receiver. I've been needing one to have for
a display to go with my Clough-Brengle model 87.
This SW-3 is really nice and very original, it hasn't been "hammed"...

Here's a link to some pics of the National and the C-B transmitter

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1HzeTjADph6y_VYw8ulfTxw0YbpOZrNPF

and a photo I was sent from an old CCC radio operator of the station
he operated in 1938, it was WUEV in Wausau WI.
I got a good bit of mail from old CCC operators after there was a
write-up about my C-B transmitter in QST in 2000.

This transmitter is REALLY heavy, I wonder how I'm going to get
it back up where it belongs.

cheers

Yup, I also still have a nice SW-3 my dad got for me when I was 12 or 13
years old, all original with three coil sets, 80-40-20 meters. I
actually used it at the beginning of my Novice career -- before I got
may dad's BC-348.

When you say yours "hasn't been "hammed"", I presume you mean no
modifications.

This is a pet peeve of mine, they ought to have a law that won't let
hams bring an electric drill anywhere near a vintage radio. <grin>

When I was a kid, I had to use a hand drill .

Though I did not modify factory equipment I did home brew a bit of stuff.

I was totally shocked in 1964 that my dad bought an electric drill.

That Black and Decker still works but I did have to oil it once back
around 1980

Be careful! The early drills that were not double insulated could be
death traps.

It was one of the first devices I ever saw with a grounding pin.
We did use the adapter and actually grounded the green wire when we used it.

What was dangerous back then were those AC/DC radios. The plug was
non-polarized and could easily be plugged in leaving the chassis "hot."

I now use a good quality Milwaukee cordless.

enjoyed the images.

When I was a baby (1950), our family lived in northern Wisconsin
...Rhinelander

My mom said they could just barely pick up one radio station ..

For all I know it might have been that station. Whatever it was, it was
County music.
